We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions about GIS Gunma International School.
Please take a look as a reference when choosing a school for your children. For any other inquiries, feel free to contact us.

What age can children start attending?

Children can start attending from the month of their 2nd birthday.

When does the application process begin?

Applications are accepted throughout the year.

Is there an entrance exam?

It depends on what grade your child is entering. If you are transfering into K1 or above there will be an English exam. However, there is no exam for those who wish to enroll their children in pre-kindergarten. We will proceed with the admission process for Pre-K after hearing about your childs growth and lifestyle.

Is it possible to tour the school?

After contacting us through our homepage we will send you additional materials for you to review. After you review the additional doccuments you can request an appointment for a tour, which is limited to one couple per day at any time, so please contact us for more details.

When is the entrance ceremony?

The entrance ceremony is held in April for the K1 kinder class. Children who started GIS in Pre-K will participate in the ceremony the year they move up to K1.

Is it okay if the parents or guardians dont speaks English?

No need to worry. Our Japanese staff will be in contact with parents/guardians, so for those who are concerned about their English ability can leave their children in our care with peace of mind.

Do you provide after-hours childcare?

Early morning care (7:30-8:00) and extended daycare (8:00-9:30, 14:00-18:00) are available. 14:00-18:00 hours are primarily staffed by native teachers with the assistance of Japanese childcare staff.

Is there a school bus available?

School buses are available for morning and return trips. More information on bus routes can be found here.
We generally do not accept route changes during the course of the school year, but if you have a preference for a new stop, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss it with you. We will consider it as a stop for the next school year.

Are school lunches and snacks provided?

We provide school lunches and can accommodate allergic diets. We do not provide snacks. If your children are in the extended daycare service, please provide your own snacks.

Do you have staff with childcare certification?

Bilingual Japanese staff with childcare qualifications are on staff as assistant teachers.

Do you provide childcare during spring, summer, and winter vacations?

For childcare during long vacations, special childcare days are provided for children in extended daycare. For more detailed schedule, please request information and check our annual calendar or contact us directly.

Are there any events that parents need to organize or help with?

No, there are no events for parents to organize or help with. All events will be prepared by the school, and we hope that parents will enjoy themselves with their children and create wonderful memories.

Will attending a Japanese elementary school after graduating from the school reduce my English proficiency?

Our school helps students maintain their English skills even after graduation. After graduation, children can maintain and further improve their English skills in our after-course immersion classes, which they can attend after elementary school is over. We have a system in place to support children's English ability so that they can continue to learn with confidence.
